Rewriting the Code has empowered me in my journey in tech by introducing me to a wonderful group of similar individuals. As a woman in technology, I often find myself underrepresented. This was a glaring issue when I first started university. As I looked around the room maybe 5-10% of us were girls. While I did make friends there, it felt like there aren’t many of us in our classrooms. When I joined Rewriting the Code, I immediately saw so many people who I could relate to. It really is nice knowing I’m not alone and there are others who’ve done what I want to. It gives me encouragement that I can fulfill my dreams. I also think Rewriting the Code has so many opportunities. I attended the career fair earlier this year and it helped me connect with many recruiters helping me in my journey as a woman in tech

I joined RTC in 2018 as an undergrad student with no work experience in tech and coming from a first-generation college student and low-income background. RTC and the community has been instrumental in my early career journey — both of my full-time jobs came through partner companies I connected with here, and I’ve had the opportunity of meeting and learning from many successful women in tech. The resources offered, from events and panels to career exploration sessions, have shaped my path. I learned skills like recruiting, interviewing, negotiating, and self-advocacy that not only helped me to land my first promotion but also feel empowered in a challenging industry. Today, I’m actively involved in the early careers group, attending mentoring events where I help younger students and continue to grow alongside them. RTC has been an invaluable experience!
